Hand Made Easter Candy Containers
Made by artisans in the Erzgebirge area of Germany.
(This is the same place where the the Lighted Christmas Arches,
Pyramids, and Smokers are made.)
Sweets for children have always been a special part of the German
tradition. So it's little wonder that candy containers were made
for most holidays in all shapes and sizes, and
from many different materials.
Christmas trees of the early 19th century were adorned with cookies, fruits and nuts, and cones, in which you could place small confections. Beginning at around 1870, Dresden paper animal heads and other Dresden ornaments often came with small silk bags that usually held a single treat.
Out of the German toy industry in the 1880's emerged
figures made of cotton or paper mache that sat on top of boxes,
snowballs, logs or some other form that could hold candy (such
as ones made by the toy manufacturer, Heubach). Some of the more
elaborate candy containers were extremely detailed lamb or Easter
Bunnies that separated at the waist, concealing a cylinder that
held the candy. Some separated at the neck and the candy could
be stored in the body. Still other Easter figures held candy in
small baskets attached to their back.
The owners of Golden Gallery of Galax, after an extensive search, successfully located the family business in Thuringia who have made paper mache candy containers from the same molds for over 100 years and placed a special order for the candy containers pictured below.
These Teddy Bear Cones especially will be a Golden
Gallery of Galax store exclusive.

Since the late 19th century and continuing through today, children
in Germany traditionally receive a candy cone on their first day
of school. Sometimes nearly as large as the child!

His 1st Day of School! |
These wonderful Teddy Bear candy containers, as well
as the Easter Teddy Bear candy boxes,
are made from top quality mohair, have real glass eyes, black
floss nose, mouth and claws.
The overall height is 17". The cone is 13 1/2" tall and the head
is 5" wide.
The cone is made from cardboard and covered with felt.
These are displayed on large doll stands.
(If you are so inclined you could make a nice stand from wood.)
Easter Nostalgia
Most of these wonderful Easter treasures have survived for
more than 100 years and
remain as useful as the day they were made.
