Mahogany Secretairie
Biedermeier Period ~1820-1830
Handcrafted in Hamburg, North Germany, of pyramid mahogany.
This exquisite piece is fully restored and lovingly french polished!
The crowning feature of the secretairie is the masterfully executed
circular checker board inlay in the alcove being reflected to
infinity by encircling mirrors!
The writing surface is made of birch and elm,
as are the small drawer fronts below the alcove.
Five large drawers are accessible while the writing surface
is closed.
A total of ten drawers are available while the writing surface
is open.

Secretairie
Very rare, solid oak - circa 1880s. Exceptional golden
finish.
Features shown in the photos above, starting at top left, include:
(1) 3 ample shelves behind upper glass doors and a full width
pull out; (2) 2 shelves behind lower cabinet doors - also shown
is raised solid wood replacement panels for the upper glass
doors - these were made original to this piece so they do match
perfectly; (3) Secretaire is shown with pull out retracted and
the writing surface lowered allowing access to 7 drawers and
storage/display nook; (4 & 5) highlights the beautiful highly
figured oak drawer fronts and carved details on the casing;
(6) is a photo of the impressive crowning moldings at the top;
(7) carvings and detail work separating the upper display area
from the mid section; (8) and lastly, this tall, magnificent
piece stands on oval ball feet! |
