Erwin Klee and his wife Angelika Mischel-Klee really began their business in 1977. They were trying to furnish an old home they had purchased and started buying antique furniture and decorative items. As is always the case, there is never enough room for everything so they began selling some items to make room for other items that they liked even more! Erwin realized that many times, the piece they were selling brought a higher price than what they had paid for it! Erwin’s love of woodworking came from his grandfather who was also a carpenter. With his knowledge, skill and desire, Erwin and Angelika decided to turn their hobby into a business.
Their shop in Breckenheim Germany grew very fast and they employed up to 20 people. Erwin even had to setup another carpenter shop in the neighboring town to help restore furniture. In 1984 Erwin and Angelika made their first trip to the United States to visit relatives in California. That trip started their love affair with the U.S. and a dream was born to have an Antique business in the States. They made many trips to the U.S. and made many friends. But in 2004 while visiting for a friend’s birthday party, they fell in love with Galax Virginia. As a result, Golden Gallery of Galax was born!
