Illustriertes Familienblatt

Translation:
The Arbour - Illustrated Family Sheet

The on-line Wikipedia encyclopedia describes The Arbour as a precursor
of modern magazines, and the first major success of the German tabloid.
It appeared in 1853 and was discontinued in 1903.
In 1876 the publisher Ernst Wedge produced a run length of 382,000 copies,
however actual readership may have been between two and five million through distribution to extended family members, lending libraries and cafes.

By the turn of the century, The Arbor had evolved into a purely entertaining sheet
instead of the popular encyclopedia it was at its' inception.
The Arbour continues to be an indispensable source for investigation on
German cultural history.

This issue contains each weekly edition of The Arbour published in 1899.
The cover's spine is in disrepair, but the text and lavishly illustrated contents
are in superb condition.

898 Pages, 9x12", color and B&W illustrations

Stammtisch Ash Tray__Stammtisch Ash Tray _ Stammtisch Ash Tray
Ash Tray and Match Box Holder
"Stammtisch" translates to "Regular's Table"
This item, circa 1950s, has a lot of interesting folk lore surrounding it.
In the US, Stammtisch, would easily refer to the "Liar's Club Table."
Nearly every local gathering place has one, whether it is a fast food restaurant or
a bar, there seems to be a special table for the "regulars" to talk over
the days' happenings, politics, and swap fish stories. Story has it,
that if you purposely or even accidentally ring the bell, "you buy the next round!"
Very handsomely crafted of wrought iron and brass.
